C2BC | Commit to Be Civil

The online medium lacks the nuance of being heard and understood with tone and inflection. We believe it is always important to pause before sending messages, understanding that what your writing might be interpreted as mean or hurtful. If you would not say something in person you should probably not write it. Negative actions and behavior never influences another in a positive way. Use positive language and have a calm composure while having a discussion and understand that even facts, not just opinions can be interpreted differently.
We understand that humans are emotional beings and that is part of what makes the world wonderful. Emotions are powerful and usually come before intellect— this is exactly what makes C 2B C such a challenge. We believe that we need to check our emotions when having discussions with those of differing opinions and that civility will allow for free, open dialogue with respect where laughter and humor are okay.
Together C 2B C can change you, your family, your friends, your social circles, your community, and the world.

C 2B C is important now more than ever. C 2B C stands not just for Commit to Be Civil, but it represents being humble, and kind to all regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or religion. We recognize that everyone has a right to their opinion and they are entitled to change that opinion; if someone disagrees, we disagree with their idea or philosophy, not the person themselves.
Everyone has their own experiences that shape how they think. One should not become angry if they disagree with another person or believe someone does not like them. Rather, we encourage demonstrating the power of a civil conversation in order to hear the other person’s side and learn where they are coming from. Often people know very little about the person with who they are communicating; understanding them will allow a new way of viewing the discussion.
